LONG BEAD:
RND 1: With yarn and F hook ch-2, work 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st top beg sc, ch-1, turn.  (8 sts)
RND 2-8: Sc ea st around, sl st top beg sc, ch-1, turn.
RND 9: (Sk next st, sc next st) around, sl st top beg sc, fasten off.  (4 sts)
GARLAND:
There are many different ways to use these two bead shapes to make garlands.  You could make then all in the same color yarn and alternate round bead with long bead as you string.  Continuing with round\long you can make ea its own color and string alternating.  Or you could string all round beads or all long beads in any color combinations you like.
To put it together, make as many of ea bead as you like.  Keeping the yarn on the skein, insert F hook through one bead, yo yarn and pull through, continue in this manner until all beads are strung then double the free end of the yarn and knot twice.  Cut about eight inches + beads from the skein and then double and knot as before.
